Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for details.
An important representative stated the vandalism left him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
